- Graduated from the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Medicine in 2001
- Obtained a Master of Medicine diploma and became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007
- Headed the Endoscopy Centre at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and participated in the "Better Colectomy" project based on the US Geisinger model and the "Better Colonoscopy" project aimed at faster patient recovery after surgery
- Completed a Ministry of Health-sponsored fellowship on the treatment of advanced or recurrent colorectal cancer under Professor Peter Sagar in the UK
- Participated in research and authored articles for international and regional publications. Also participated in international surgical conferences
- Is an Honorary Member of the Society of Colorectal Surgeons in Singapore
