Soon Chun Hyang Hospital is a multidisciplinary medical center founded by the university of the same name in 2001. At the time of its opening, it was a small hospital with 250 beds; today, Soon Chun Hyang is a network of 4 clinics located in Bucheon, Seoul, Cheonan and Kumi.
The Bucheon branch has 1,000 staff members, including 300 qualified doctors and professors. Patients are treated across 31 departments and 16 specialized centers, with a total of 1,000 inpatient beds. More than 600,000 outpatients and 300,000 inpatients seek care at the center every year.
Over the years, Soon Chun Hyang has earned the status of a Research Center in the fields of genetics, treatment of respiratory diseases and therapy at the cellular level.
A Center for Medical Simulation Tools was established to train students, where future doctors refine their skills and practice medical procedures. This training has paid off: Soon Chun Hyang became one of the first hospitals in the country where doctors have successfully performed:
- bone marrow transplantation from a non-blood relative;
- cochlear implantation (placing an electronic prosthesis that restores hearing);
- liver transplantation;
- laparoscopic gastrectomy (removal of the stomach) for cancer.
The Center regularly carries out charity surgeries during which it fully covers patients' treatment and flight expenses. The dates of these programs should be confirmed with the coordinators.
