Extirpation of the uterus, the price of surgery
Extirpation is a surgical procedure involving the complete removal of the uterus.
The main indications for the appointment of uterine extirpation are malignant tumors, endometriosis, fibroids, fibrosis, uterine prolapse and other diseases of the female reproductive system in the late stages, when other treatment is impossible.
Before prescribing this surgical intervention to a patient, doctors should carefully examine the picture of the disease and assess all the risks, weighing all the pros and cons of this decision. For example, this method of treatment is applied to young women only in the most extreme cases.
Types of extirpation
There are several types of this operation. The method is selected depending on the patient's diagnosis, age, general well-being, and some other factors.
Depending on the doctor's decision, the following procedures may be prescribed: removal of the uterus with or without the cervix, extirpation of the uterus with tubes and ovaries, as well as extended extirpation.
Extended uterine extirpation is the removal of the upper part of the vagina, all pelvic organs, and sometimes even nearby lymph nodes. Such an intervention is considered radical and is used only in the most severe cases.
There is an extended uterine extirpation with Wertheim appendages and an extended uterine extirpation with ovarian transposition, the latter is used when appendages can be preserved.
There is a distinction between extirpation of the uterus and the method of access to the organ itself.:
- vaginal removal — through the vagina;
- laparoscopic removal — through punctures on the abdomen;
- Laparotomy — through incisions in the abdomen.
The price of the uterus extirpation operation is calculated individually, depending on the country of treatment, the method of removal of the uterus and the general condition of the patient.
Rehabilitation
After extirpation of the uterus, the female body returns to normal within one and a half to two months. Immediately after surgery, the patient may be concerned about spotting, difficulty urinating, suture soreness, and hormonal changes. To reduce the consequences, the patient is prescribed special postoperative therapy aimed at restoring blood loss and controlling the behavior of the patient's body after extirpation. It is also worth noting that physical activity is not recommended during the recovery period. Sexual activity is also prohibited for the first time.
