Embolization of uterine fibroids

Uterine fibroids are benign neoplasms that form either on the uterine wall or on its cervix. Fibroids are stimulated by a complex of causes, which include various hormonal disorders, inflammatory diseases, menstruation, and excess weight. The beginnings of fibroids gradually appear in the muscle tissues of the uterus, from which the tumor grows.

Uterine fibroids are oncological diseases. Embolization is successfully used to treat it. This method is quite effective and suitable for the treatment of gynecological pathologies similar to fibroids, such as amyloidosis of the uterine vessels and arteriovenous malformation of the uterus. What is this method?

Embolization method

Embolization consists in the selective blockage of blood vessels, for which special solid particles are used – emboli. The safest and at the same time effective method of treating uterine fibroids is embolization of the uterine arteries. Reviews about this treatment are positive – the fight against the disease is painless and effective.

During embolization of the uterine arteries, blood flow stops along those arterial branches that supply blood to fibroids. Having lost blood supply, fibroids seem to "shrink", either significantly decreasing in size or disappearing altogether. This happens because fibroids begin to be replaced by connective tissue, a process called fibrosis.

The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in a specially equipped operating room, which is equipped with an angiographic device. A small puncture of the right femoral artery is performed, through which a thin catheter tube is inserted. A catheter delivers emboli into the uterine arteries, blocking the necessary vessels. The complexity of such an innovative operation raises the question of how much it costs to embolize uterine fibroids. However, the prices, taking into account all the technical details of the procedure, are quite reasonable.

Embolization results

A high-quality embolization of the uterine vessels leads to a number of favorable results related to both the disease itself and its symptoms.:

  •  normalization of menstrual bleeding;
  •  reducing the volume and duration of menstruation;
  •  neutralizing pain;
  •  active reduction of the volume of fibroids and myomatous nodes;
  •  exclusion of disease recurrence.

Advantages of embolization

The main advantage of embolization is that it is a minimally invasive procedure. Surgical intervention is minimal here, healthy tissues are practically not damaged. This feature determines other significant advantages of uterine artery embolization.:

  •  it is possible to save the uterus;
  •  preserving the ability to procreate;
  •  The procedure is effective in more than 98% of cases.;
  •  the recurrence of fibroids is prevented;
  •  almost zero chance of complications;
  •  improvements come almost instantly.

The price of the procedure is quite correlated with the quality of the services. How much does embolization of uterine fibroids cost in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities with large Russian medical centers? As a rule, prices range around 100,000 rubles. If we take into account all the unique benefits of uterine fibroids embolization, this price can be considered another advantage of the method.
