About the clinic

Seoul National University (SNU) Hospital is one of the oldest medical institutions in Korea, whose history began in 1899. The hospital combines medical activities with educational and scientific ones — doctors from Korea and abroad receive additional education here, research and clinical trials are underway.

The hospital has been accredited by the Korean Ministry of Health and the Social Security Authority and has won first place in the Korea Brand Power Index national competition for 11 years. It is chosen by thousands of patients, including top officials of the state — the President of the Republic of Korea was treated here.

Structure:

  • the main building, which includes 35 departments and 28 specialized centers;
  • Cancer Center;
  • Pediatric Center;
  • Institute of Biomedicine;
  • 3 branches — 2 in Seoul and 1 in Pundan.

Every year, the hospital receives more than 600,000 inpatient and more than 2,000,000 outpatient patients, including foreign patients from 80 countries. 1,372 doctors and 1,982 nurses are responsible for the treatment. In addition, about 1,000 young specialists from the best universities in Korea can study here at the same time.

Patients who are not from Korea are met by the staff of the International Center. They are responsible for translating from 6 languages and advise on any issues that arise.

Department cardiology

The hospital's cardiologists use many years of experience to help patients with severe ischemic disease, heart defects, and arrhythmia.

To reduce the burden on the body, operations are performed percutaneously (the surgeon acts through a puncture in the skin) or endovascular (the surgeon gets access to the pathological focus through large blood vessels).

In 99% of cases, aorto-coronary bypass surgery is performed on a working heart — that is, without a cardiopulmonary bypass device, the use of which carries a high risk of complications.

Every year, the hospital's doctors perform about 200 CABG, 600 operations to correct heart defects in newborns, 3,500 diagnostic and 1,500 therapeutic percutaneous procedures. 98.5 — 99% of them are successful.
