Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the shape and volume of the breast.
A breast lift can be performed to correct the following problems:
- Saggy breasts due to weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Drooping or asymmetrical nipples
- Sagging skin and loss of breast volume
Breast lift may be recommended for women:
- Who have sagging breasts due to aging, weight loss, or pregnancy
- Who have drooping or asymmetrical nipples
- Who have sagging skin and loss of breast volume
- Who have good overall health indicators and realistic expectations about the results
Breast lift is not recommended for women:
- With serious systemic diseases such as cancer or diabetes
- With blood clotting disorders
- With active infections
- With very large or heavy breasts
- With unrealistic expectations about the results
Breast lift is usually performed under general anesthesia. The steps of the procedure include:
- Incisions: The surgeon will make incisions around the areola and vertically downward from it, forming an inverted "T".
- Removal of excess skin: Excess skin and tissues are removed, and the breasts are pulled up.
- Nipple displacement: The nipples and areoles move to a higher and more central position.
- Incision closure: Incisions are closed with sutures or surgical glue.
- Installation of drains: Drains can be installed to remove any excess fluid from the operating area.
After a breast lift, the following symptoms are usually observed:
- Swelling and bruising
- Pain or discomfort
- Limited mobility near the chest
Full recovery takes several weeks or months. During this time, it is recommended to wear a supportive bra, avoid intense exercise and excessive weight lifting.
Potential complications of a breast lift include:
- Seroma (accumulation of fluid under the skin)
- Hematoma (accumulation of blood under the skin)
- Infection
- Nerve damage
- Necrosis of the nipples
- Bad scars
A breast lift can significantly improve the shape and volume of your breasts. The results usually persist for many years, although over time the breasts may drop slightly again.
Advantages:
- Improvement of breast shape and volume
- Lifting of lowered nipples
- Improving breast symmetry
- Increased self-confidence
Disadvantages:
- Scars that may be noticeable depending on the type of procedure
- The need for general anesthesia
- Risk of complications such as infection or nerve damage
- Limited mobility and discomfort during recovery
- High cost
