There are hemangiomas:
- multiple, when one patient has several foci;
- affecting various internal organs — brain, liver.
Indications for the treatment of hemangiomas abroad
Small hemangiomas do not cause discomfort and often do not require any treatment. However, there are cases where doctors need to intervene.:
- if the tumor causes a lot of inconvenience, including from an aesthetic point of view;
- if it reaches a large size, it can disrupt the work of nearby organs (for example, it causes breathing difficulties if it is inside the trachea, or compresses surrounding vessels).;
- if it is located in the brain, it can lead to neurological disorders, hallucinations, speech problems, or rupture of a hemangioma and stroke.;
- if it is easily damaged and bleeds, it may result in ulceration or serious internal bleeding.
A rare, but nevertheless common complication in practice is heart failure, even to the point of failure, caused by the extremely large size of the tumor. With bone lesions, bone erosion may begin.
Methods of hemangioma treatment abroad
Minimally invasive treatment is selected, especially when it comes to infant hemangioma. Conservative therapy with beta blockers, laser, exposure to low temperature or electric shock, chemical sclerosis — all these methods destroy the tumor without surgery. They are also indicated if the patient has several tumors.
If surgery is required, the doctor may embolize (block) or ligate the arteries supplying the hemangioma with blood. This will not only stop the growth, but also lead to its disintegration. Large, health-threatening tumors are completely excised.
Radical methods are used especially often when removing or destroying hemangiomas of the liver or brain. To reduce the risk of complications, surgeons prefer minimally invasive approaches.:
- intravascular — a catheter with a spring for embolization is inserted inside a large vessel and brought to the hemangioma under the control of X-ray or MRI;
- endoscopic — the doctor inserts instruments through the natural openings of the body.
Prognosis of hemangioma treatment abroad
In most cases, the prognosis is favorable, and the patient does not even need treatment — only medical supervision. But in any case, timely diagnosis is necessary — any tumor can resume growth and lead to complications.
