Cataract

Clouding of the lens of the eye, better known as cataracts, is the most common age—related eye disease. It has an irreversible character — the affected eye gradually goes blind. However, cataract treatment abroad makes it possible to successfully cope with the disease.

Foreign clinics offer their patients the removal of a damaged lens and its replacement with an artificial one. Such a "prosthesis" is called an intraocular lens and is a plastic lens consisting of an optical part (actually, the lens) and fixing elements that securely and securely fix the artificial lens in the eye.

Types of intraocular lenses (IOL)

Monofocal IOL is used in most cases and provides the patient with good vision at one of the distances – close or far. In order to see well at the second distance, the patient will use glasses as if he had farsightedness or nearsightedness.
The accommodating monofocal IOL allows for healthy vision at both distances, so that the patient does not need glasses. Such a lens mimics the natural adaptation (accommodation) to the distance of the natural lens.
Multifocal IOL is the most advanced in cataract treatment abroad. It is as close as possible to the natural lens and allows you to see well without glasses, even at an average distance.
Aspherical IOL is an imitation of a "young" lens, an aspherical lens. It provides not only visual acuity, but also its contrast sensitivity, which decreases over the years.
In addition to using all modern types of IOLs, cataract treatment abroad includes the most effective, high-tech treatment methods.

Microsurgical methods for the treatment of cataracts abroad

The most popular and effective. The following methods are most often used:

  • phacoemulsification. The core of the affected lens is destroyed with the help of a special needle (phakonikon), which carries out high-frequency reciprocating vibrations. The principle resembles the operation of a jackhammer. The operation is performed through a microscopic incision, which is then filled with special drops. Recovery is fast – the patient does not even need to wear a bandage.;
  • extracapsular surgery. It is used for complex cataract cases. When the lens is removed, its posterior capsule remains. A relatively large incision is performed, so the patient needs to wear a bandage for a long time after surgery.;
  • intracapsular surgery. The lens is removed along with the capsule. The technique is rarely used when a dislocation of the lens is established (its displacement from its place).

Surgical removal of the lens and its replacement with an implant is the most effective approach. The operation is performed relatively quickly, and the recovery period takes, in the most severe cases, no more than a month.

Medical treatment of cataracts abroad

However, non-surgical, medical treatment is also practiced in the treatment of cataracts abroad. It is aimed at restoring the water-electrolyte balance and metabolic processes in the lens. Thus, the very cause of cataract development is eliminated. The patient is prescribed eye drops and tablets, the long-term and systematic use of which leads to positive results.
