Strabismus

Strabismus, or strabismus, is a visual disorder in which the coordinated work of the eye muscles is disrupted. In other words, the eyes look in different directions. Strabismus can be convergent (both eyes look at the bridge of the nose), divergent (the eyes are directed to the temples) and vertical (the gaze is directed up or down).

Besides the fact that strabismus is an extremely unpleasant external defect, it leads to vision problems, such as double vision. Strabismus treatment abroad is an effective way to get rid of the disease once and for all, eliminating its cause, as well as preventing the consequences. Foreign ophthalmologists provide consistent treatment that takes into account the individual nature of the disease in each patient.

The causes of strabismus can be different

  •  congenital pathologies (for example, intrauterine damage to the central nervous system);
  •  injuries sustained during childbirth;
  •  brain damage and diseases;
  •  various infections (measles, scarlet fever, diphtheria);
  •  eye diseases (astigmatism, anisometropia);
  •  unsuccessful eye surgeries;
  •  severe fright.

When diagnosing, it is important to identify the specific cause of strabismus and overcome it by prescribing appropriate treatment. Foreign clinics have the latest equipment for this.

Strabismus treatment abroad is possible in two ways: therapeutic and surgical.

Therapeutic treatment of strabismus abroad

It does not involve surgery, but it takes a long time and is not suitable in all cases. It is most often used to treat children's strabismus.

Methods of therapeutic treatment:

  •  the use of specialized eye drops;
  •  gymnastic exercises for the oculomotor muscles (for example, observing objects approaching and moving away);
  •  the use of special glasses (often the squinting eye is covered with a blindfold);
  •  convergence training exercises. A convergentrener is an ophthalmic device that resembles binoculars and helps restore convergence, i.e. the ability of both eyes to focus on a single object.

The experience of specialists makes the therapeutic treatment of strabismus abroad as effective as possible.

Surgical treatment of strabismus abroad

This method is used for adult patients and in cases where the therapeutic treatment of childhood strabismus does not help. The goal is to normalize muscle balance and reduce the angle of strabismus. To do this, foreign surgeons either weaken or strengthen the work of the oculomotor muscle. Accordingly, there are two types of strabismus correction surgery.:

  •  The reinforcing operation consists in shortening the stronger oculomotor muscle (part of it is removed). Thus, the effect of weak muscles is enhanced, and the correct muscle balance is restored.;
  •  Debilitating surgery is the transplantation of a strong muscle further away from the cornea, resulting in its weakening.

The latest microsurgical instruments are used for both operations. The unique skills of foreign specialists allow performing combined operations on two muscles at once.

Strabismus treatment abroad is a guarantee of safe and effective control of the disease.
