Melanoma

Melanoma is a dangerous form of cancer that affects the skin cells that produce melanin. This is one of the most common types of cancer in young people aged 20 to 30 years. Melanoma can appear anywhere on the surface of the skin, as well as on the mucous membranes lining the mouth, nose, and genitals. This type of cancer spreads rapidly to other parts of the body, so if detected, it requires immediate treatment.

For most patients, surgical removal of melanoma is required. During the operation, 1 to 2 cm of normal skin surrounding the entire lesion is also cut out. This procedure is called wide local excision. It reduces the chance of cancer re-developing in the same area. The best results and minimal recurrence are demonstrated by the treatment of melanoma abroad in clinics in Israel, Germany, China, Korea, India, Singapore and Turkey, which use the latest advances in minimally invasive surgery and immunotherapy.

A special approach to the treatment of melanoma abroad

Hospitals in Japan, Germany, and Israel practice a multidisciplinary approach, with a team of melanoma experts working with each case, including surgical oncologists, pathologists, dermatologists, head and neck surgeons, neurosurgeons, plastic surgeons, radiation oncologists, and other specialists, if necessary. They work closely together at every stage of the patient's treatment.

Types of melanoma treatment methods abroad

Clinics in Korea, China, Israel, Germany and Singapore offer several innovative methods of fighting skin cancer based on an individual approach.

  • Lymphatic mapping and sentinel node biopsy. If the malignant spot is more than 1 mm deep, doctors can do a biopsy of the lymph node closest to it to see if the tumor has spread to the lymphatic system. If the tissue taken does not contain cancer cells, then minimal surgical intervention is possible.
  • Minimally invasive perfusion of the extremities. In metastatic melanoma, this procedure allows high doses of antitumor drugs to be delivered directly into the bloodstream of the affected limb (leg or arm). This minimizes the systemic toxicity of the drug. The new procedure helps to reduce the rate of cancer development as safely as possible and is recommended for patients with inoperable stage III disease.
  • Targeted therapy based on cancer DNA analysis and understanding of molecular changes in melanoma tumor cells.
  • Adjuvant stereotactic radiation therapy to reduce the risk of melanoma after surgery.
  • Immunotherapy of rare forms of melanoma that begin in the eye (uveal melanoma) or the mucous membrane (for example, vaginal, rectal or synasal).

The most affordable prices for melanoma treatment abroad are offered by cancer centers in Korea, China, India and Turkey.

Clinical trials of the latest drugs for melanoma

In Israel and Germany, new ways are constantly being explored to help the body fight melanoma. These countries are organizing clinical trials for their patients in the following areas:

  • immunotherapy using the latest drugs such as Ipilimumab, PD-1 and PDL-1 inhibitors, interleukin-2, as well as T-cell therapy;
  • targeted treatments using BRAF, MEK, multikinase, and KIT inhibitors;
  • combined inhibitor regimens.

The cost of each advanced therapy method is formed individually, as well as in accordance with the pricing policy of the medical center.
