There are 4 types of prostatitis:

  • chronic bacterial — symptoms appear and go away periodically;
  • acute bacterial — sudden severe symptoms caused by infection;
  • Chronic non—bacterial is the most common type of prostatitis, not caused by infection.;
  • asymptomatic inflammatory — occurs without symptoms, is diagnosed in the presence of white blood cells in the prostate.

Diagnosis and treatment of prostatitis abroad

The diagnosis of prostatitis includes a urine, blood test and a prostate-specific antigen test (performed when there is no severe inflammation). In some cases, the doctor may prescribe an ultrasound and CT scan of the prostate.

As a treatment for prostatitis, antibiotics based on the identified type of bacterium, alpha blockers (relax muscles and facilitate urination), 5-alpha reductase inhibitors (for the treatment of enlarged prostate) and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed. Anticholinergic drugs are recommended to reduce the frequency of urination. To make going to the toilet easier, a catheter is sometimes inserted into the bladder.

Features of prostatitis treatment abroad

The most difficult thing to treat is chronic prostatitis. There are many reasons for its development, so there is no universal cure. The same methods work differently for different patients. Abroad, prostatitis treatment is based on a multimodal approach, including a combination of traditional, modern and alternative techniques. For example, the UPOINT individual system identifies the cause of symptoms and recommends therapy to combat it. This helps the patient avoid unnecessary antibiotics and save time and money.

According to the UPOINT program, prostatitis symptoms can cause various body problems, they were divided into 6 groups: genitourinary, psychosocial, diseases of other organs, infections, neurological and skeletal muscle weakness. Based on the analysis of specific symptoms, a treatment plan is drawn up, including medications, physical therapy, and methods for solving psychological and behavioral problems. To eliminate the cause of the active reproduction of pathogenic bacteria, a diet or bioactive supplements are prescribed.

Alternative prostatitis treatment abroad

In Chinese clinics, a combination of modern drugs with TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) is often used to treat prostatitis, including phytotherapy, dietary programs, acupuncture, physiotherapy, and stress management training.

Phytotherapy for chronic prostatitis involves the use of natural supplements of quercetin and pollen (combined with probiotics). There are many studies proving the effectiveness of the anti-inflammatory properties of quercetin and pollen extracts as painkillers. As a result, herbal medicines improve the quality of life of men with prostatitis without side effects.
