Brachytherapy in Athens is relevant for malignant tumors of various forms and stages. It is performed by radiologists whose authority is recognized at the international level. The procedure is a local effect of radioactive substances on tumor cells, which advantageously distinguishes it from classic radiation therapy. Brachytherapy can be temporary or permanent. In the first case, radioactive material is delivered to the neoplasm via a catheter, which is then removed; in the second, «seeds» are introduced into the tumor and remain there permanently.
