Osteochondrosis

Osteochondrosis is damage to the inner cartilaginous surface of joints. Osteochondrosis of intervertebral discs can develop both in a certain area of the spine (cervical, thoracic, lumbosacral) and affect it completely. The main causes of the disease are injuries, natural age—related changes in the elderly, heredity and developmental abnormalities in adolescents.

Treatment of osteochondrosis begins with conservative methods. The doctor prescribes anti-inflammatory drugs in injections and tablets, physical therapy and a special exercise system. If these measures do not bring the desired result, surgery is prescribed with complete or partial removal of the damaged disc — discectomy. In some cases, spinal fusion (joining of the vertebrae) is performed.

In Singapore, China, Korea, Israel, and Germany, spinal surgery is performed minimally invasively through a tiny puncture. Thanks to advanced equipment (endoscopes, robotic surgical systems, imaging systems), the treatment of osteochondrosis abroad becomes safer, but as effective as traditional open surgeries.

Intraoperative imaging for the treatment of osteochondrosis abroad

At Assuta Hospital (Israel), which specializes in minimally invasive surgery, microdiscectomy is performed under the guidance of the O-ARM X-ray system. Thanks to the new technology, surgeons obtain a three-dimensional image of the operated area without making large incisions. Hospitalization after such an operation is only 1 day. The recovery period is 2-3 weeks. Prices for surgical treatment of osteochondrosis abroad, in particular in Israel, can be found from clinic representatives.

Minimally invasive surgery methods

In Germany, spinal surgery is performed using several least invasive methods, namely:

  • percutaneous endoscopic nucleotomy (removal of the damaged part of the disc with forceps inserted through a cannula);
  • laser technology;
  • microscopic laminectomy;
  • implantation surgery.

The method of surgical treatment is determined individually. Intervertebral disc repair is performed under local anesthesia and on an outpatient basis. The minimally invasive procedure prevents the patient from being hospitalized and reduces treatment costs.

Prosthetics

If the disc is seriously damaged, it is replaced with an artificial implant. This is one of the most effective methods of treating osteochondrosis. The prosthesis allows you to maintain the entire range of motion in the affected area.

Traditional medicine

Hospitals in China use one of the oldest sciences in the world, Chinese medicine, combined with modern technologies to treat patients with osteochondrosis. Based on the diagnosis, individual medicines from natural herbs are selected for each patient. Acupuncture or hot acupuncture, acupressure and physiotherapy are also prescribed. After seven days of treatment, the patient undergoes a re-diagnosis in order to adjust therapy based on new data about his health.
