Ophthalmology in hospitals Italy

Advantages and priorities of Italian medicine

The most sought-after institutions in the field of medical tourism include the European Institute of Oncology and the San Rafael Clinic in Milan, the Salvador Mundi Hospital in Rome, and the Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics in Messina.  There are over 1,250 private and municipal clinics in the country.

In addition to medical and diagnostic institutions, sanatoriums and resorts operate in Italy, which provide drinking treatment with mineral waters, climate therapy, thermal therapy, physiotherapy and other methods of rehabilitation and preventive effects on the body.

The following procedures are most in demand in Italian clinics:

  • robotic surgery using Da Vinci equipment;
  • medical and hardware antitumor treatment according to innovative standards;
  • comprehensive check-up survey;
  • orthopedic and vertebrological surgical procedures;
  • treatment of cardiac pathologies with medications;
  • cardiac surgery (open and endovascular);
  • cellular therapy of malignant lesions of blood and lymph;
  • palliative care for seriously ill patients.

Italian doctors are highly competent. It is difficult to get a doctor's profession in the country: universities provide a limited number of places, and it will take 10 years of theoretical and practical training to become a practicing specialist. Therefore, only selected candidates enter medicine.

Among the advantages of treatment in Italy, it is worth highlighting:

  • high-tech equipment of medical and diagnostic institutions;
  • advanced diagnostic and therapeutic standards;
  • monitoring by European and international commissions;
  • a thorough approach to the examination of patients;
  • experienced and talented doctors;
  • the best rehabilitation and palliative care programs in Europe.

An additional bonus is the warm climate, which is well tolerated by patients even in winter.

The cost of treatment in Italy

Prices for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in Italian clinics are 30-35% lower than in medical institutions in Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom. An initial examination and consultation with a doctor with a diagnosis costs the patient 250-400 euros. A complete package diagnosis costs from 400 to 1600 euros, depending on the destination. Prices for surgical procedures start from 4,000 euros. It is not necessary to stay in a hospital during conservative treatment.

Patient reviews of Italian clinics

 Reviews from people who visited Italy for medical tourism attest to the professionalism of local doctors, caring attitude on the part of junior and middle staff, individual approach to each disease and case, progressive hospital equipment, excellent service.

Germans, French, British, Irish, and Americans are the main medical tourists in the country. The popularity of this direction is also growing among residents of Eastern Europe.
